How to Calculate ACT Score – How to Use Calculator
Step 1: Go to the Calculator Website
You should have the ACT score calculator page open. It is the calculator with a blue background.
Step 2: Enter English Score (1-36)
You will see a field called “English Score (1-36)” at the top. Click in this white box. Type your English section score. For example, if you got 25 marks, type “25”.
Step 3: Add Math Score (1-36)
Click in the second field “Math Score (1-36)”. Enter your Mathematics section score. This score should also be between 1 and 36.
Step 4: Enter Reading Score (1-36)
Click in the third input box “Reading Score (1-36)”. Enter your Reading comprehension score. Double check that the number type is correct.
Step 5: Add Science Score (1-36)
Click in the last field “Science Score (1-36)”. Type your Science reasoning score. This is the last of the four sections.
Step 6: See Automatic Calculation
As soon as you complete all four scores, the calculator will automatically work. The “Composite Score” will appear in the yellow/golden color box below.
Step 7: Note the Result
Your final composite score will be displayed in the yellow box. This score is the average of your four sections. Note this score somewhere.

Example 1: High Achiever Student
• English: 34
• Math: 33
• Reading: 35
• Science: 32
The composite score of this student will be around 33-34. This is an excellent level score.
Example 2: Average Performance
• English: 22
• Math: 20
• Reading: 24
• Science: 21
The composite score of this student will be around 22. This is close to the national average.
Example 3: Improvement Needed
• English: 15
• Math: 16
• Reading: 14
• Science: 17
In this case, the composite score will be around 15-16. More practice is needed.
ACT Composite Score Calculation Formula
The ACT composite score calculation is a fairly simple process. The scores from all four sections are averaged.
(English + Math + Reading + Science) ÷ 4 = Composite Score
However, this score is rounded to the nearest whole number. If the decimal is .5 or more, it is rounded up.
How Are ACT Scores Calculated – Additional Information
Raw Score to Scaled Score
First, your correct answers are counted. This is called the raw score. Then it is converted to a 1-36 scale.
